ELECTRONIC BILLBOARDS TO DOT ALL PUNJAB CITIES-SUKHBIR

CHANDIGARH, NOVEMBER 2: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today
gave final touches to Pan Punjab outdoor advertising policy under which standardized electronic billboards, signage, bus queue shelters, public conveniences would replace the existing traditional signboards, increasing the income of Municipal Corporations and Committees manifold.
 In a high level meeting in which Local Government Minister Mr. Chuni Lal Bhagat, Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia and Tourism Minister Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur participated, the Deputy Chief Minister saw the presentations given by Multi National outdoor Advertising Companies, who offered to participate in the ambitious program of Punjab Government that was cleared in last cabinet meeting.
             Mr. Badal said that with varied size billboards cluttering the skyline of Urban Areas, it was imperative that a standardized advertising policy be put in operation that would do away with unauthorized hoardings. He said that proposed electronic billboards  besides giving a planned look to the cities would also increase the income of local bodies manifold.
             Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Public Relations Minister, said that Punjab has to adopt modern approach to advertising and there was need to launch a drive against unauthorized hoarding and check the defacement of public property.
             Besides Commissioners of all Corporation Towns, Principal Secretary Tourism Mrs. Geetika Kalha, Principal Secretary Local Government Mr. Suresh Kumar, Director Local Government Mr. Ashok Gupta, Director Public Relations Mr. D.S. Mangat and other senior officers of various departments also participated in the meeting.

  1. Till today the most common practice to earn money was to install a board on a residential or a commercial building and rent it out to a corporate client and get a Parchi from the MC. The untendered media thrived and the legal tender holders surrendered their media. The MCs can earn a hell lot more if they announce that only tender media shall be allowed and the MC will watch the interest of the tender holders and remove advertisements from the buildings...But officers with their vested interests would suggest otherwise. Anyway Sukhbir is doing a lot of refinement which was required from a long time and i wish this CEO all the very best for his efforts.
